Step Inside Jessica Alba’s Haven In Los Angeles
In January 2019, Jessica Alba, the actress and cofounder of the eco-friendly megabrand The Honest Co., threw a 40th-birthday bash for her husband, Cash Warren, producer and cofounder of lifestyle brand Pair of Thieves. Throughout his 30s, she’d organize an over-the-top pajama party every year—blowouts that would include beer pong, Twister, charades, and even a corn-hole toss. But this year, because they had recently moved into a home perched on the edge of a scenic, leafy canyon in Los Angeles, she decided to combine the birthday with a housewarming. And after their beautiful, new, expansive backyard—a hot commodity in this part of town—had been mauled by tents, bars, and wild corn tossers at the extravaganza, she decided to retire the tradition. “He’s in his 40s now, so he can do other stuff!” she says, laughing. “This is our dream house!”
Alba and Warren met on the set of Fantastic Four, in 2004. They married and had their first daughter, Honor, in 2008. A second daughter, Haven, arrived in 2011, and son Hayes was delivered on New Year’s Eve 2017. The couple, who had been living in a house just down the street for the past decade, already had started looking for a new one with more space, and a big backyard was on their wish list. “We wanted a place to watch our kids play and grow up,” Alba says.
Above: Beautiful Nashville Tennessee Homes: Inside Supermodel & Famous Fashion Model Lily Aldridge’s Nashville Home.
In this episode of ‘Open Door’, Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated swimsuit supermodel Lily Aldridge gives Architectural Digest a tour of the cozy Nashville home she shares with her husband Caleb Followill and their daughter.
While she is admittedly better known as a Victoria’s Secret bombshell and face of Bulgari than an overzealous homemaker, and her other half as the lead singer of rock band Kings of Leon, the couple, parents to six-year-old daughter Dixie, enthusiastically put family life center stage when they’re off duty.
When it comes to model–rocker unions, domesticity is a somewhat foreign concept. Studio 54 set the stage for Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s glamorous courtship. Axl Rose and Stephanie Seymour’s volatile romance played out in a series of music videos that ended with her in a coffin (not surprisingly, their unscripted relationship fizzled in almost as dramatic a fashion). But for Aldridge and Followill, who rarely make public appearances à deux, the theatrics appear to be reserved for their charming abode, composed of grand archways, Persian carpets, and a gloriously tiled kitchen. “Home is everything,” says the California native, who relocated to Nashville after meeting her Tennessee-born husband more than a decade ago.
Dixie’s birth sparked the couple’s move from a kicky condo located near the city’s nightlife scene and sports arena to “a home near a great school,” Aldridge says of how their priorities shifted upon becoming parents. She immediately fell in love with this one: “It was beautiful, comfy, cozy.” She pauses. “My husband, on the other hand, wanted to move into a different house.” To help persuade him that the Tudor Revival, though a bit old-fashioned in appearance, was the perfect address, she called on designers and close friends Louisa Pierce and Emily Ward of Pierce & Ward. The duo count Karen Elson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Dakota Johnson among their starry clientele, and Pierce had previously decorated Aldridge and Followill’s condo.
We both travel a lot for work, but we do everything in our power to have a normal life here.
A recognition of the 1930 house’s good bones helped seal the deal: wood floors, beamed ceilings, expansive windows. “I love those details, and they’re hard to re-create,” Aldridge explains. Her husband gave in, and in the span of just four months, during much of which Followill was on tour and Aldridge out of town on modeling assignments, Pierce and Ward renovated and decorated every square inch of the place.
For the decor, Aldridge presented the designers with a Pinterest board of inspirations ranging from romantic English country houses to exotic Moroccan riads. “We were all on the same page,” says Ward, who, with Pierce, cheerfully scavenged antiques stores and eBay for eclectica such as leather club chairs, poufs, chandeliers, and a mélange of midcentury-modern pieces.
Each room is imbued with a relaxed, family-friendly elegance. The kitchen features open cabinetry with a decorative retro tile backsplash, and it’s where Followill holds court.
The living room is framed in arched bookshelves with a fireplace she keeps crackling “until it’s unbearably hot outside” and a pair of club chairs that remind her of the ones her artist father had in his studio during her youth. “The leather was literally peeling off the seats,” she recalls.

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady’s family home in Los Angeles is far removed from the bright lights of the runway and gridiron. The star Patriots quarterback and Brazilian model built this house as a sanctuary for their family.
Prior to their marriage in 2009, they discovered an open lot with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean near the house they were renting. They immediately knew the patch of land would one day be home.
The couple has a three-year-old son, Benjamin, and a baby daughter, Vivian Lake, along with six-year-old John, Brady’s son from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.
The pair engaged architect Richard Landry and one of his frequent collaborators, interior designer Joan Behnke.
Bündchen is a global ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme, and the couple is acutely aware of issues related to the conservation of natural resources. One of their primary imperatives when building their home was to use as many recycled components as possible and to implement energy and water systems that would ameliorate the family’s impact on the land. In addition to composting, gray-water technology for irrigation, and environmentally friendly construction materials, the pair installed two substantial arrays of photovoltaic solar panels (one next to the garden, the other on the roof of the house) that would meet all of the property’s electricity needs.
Incorporating those priorities into the design plan, Landry conceived an elegant interpretation of old-world European architecture—think French château via the Pacific Coast Highway—deftly attuned to the needs of contemporary life. The six-bedroom, nearly 14,000-square-foot house is constructed of different types of limestone, all acid-washed for patina and texture, with a traditional mansard roof of Vermont gray slate with zinc gutters and flashing. A winding driveway leads over a pond to a motor court paved in reclaimed cobblestones and then to a stone bridge spanning a koi-stocked moat that’s picturesque but not pompous.
When it came to the interiors, Behnke punched up the restrained, sophisticated atmosphere with eye-catching light fixtures that include a confection of dripping silver mesh in the entry, gilded sconces by Hervé Van der Straeten in the great room, and an antique crystal chandelier in Bündchen’s dressing room that the model and designer purchased together in Paris. The color scheme throughout, playing off the building materials, is decidedly neutral, with occasional accents of green and blue. And the furnishings are unpretentious pieces made with fine natural materials such as Belgian linen, old leather, silk, and velvet.
A loggia features a chandelier and sconces by Gregorius | Pineo and Restoration Hardware wicker sofas and chairs cushioned in a Clarence House fabric; the reclaimed-oak ceiling beams and antique limestone mantel are from Koen Van Loo of EA2.
Part of that quest entailed the use of reclaimed ceiling beams and floorboards, salvaged ceramic tile, brick, and bluestone, and antique wood doors and marble fireplace surrounds. For Brady and Bündchen these were aesthetic choices that aligned with their commitment to reuse. Much of the repurposed material was supplied by Belgian dealer Koen Van Loo, a friend of the couple’s who sells vintage architectural details and building components.
If the moat and bridge set the romantic tone of a European country estate, the ingenious swimming pool at the rear of the house adds another layer to the transporting fantasy. Offering dreamy vistas of the Pacific dissolving into the distance, the pool is laid out with two straight sides and one long, sinuous edge that helps give the impression of a natural lake, particularly in early-morning and late-afternoon light. A deck made of reclaimed-oak planks projects into the water to buttress the illusion.
Idyllic as that outdoor space is, Bündchen’s favorite spot is the garden—planted into a terraced hill off the side of the house—which supplies a cornucopia of apples, peaches, plums, guava, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes, plus kale and other greens. There’s also a chicken coop filled with hens busy laying eggs. For Bündchen the microfarm is another aspect of living mindfully.

Dutch model Romee Strijd insists she has the “typical” discovery story, but her career is anything but ordinary. She was first scouted while shopping with her mother in Amsterdam, but the shy, young model turned down the opportunity. Years later, her interest in modeling grew and she reached out to the agent, effectively kicking her course into high speed.
The Holland-born mannequin quickly made a name for herself, booking high-profile shows like Louis Vuitton and Prada in her first fashion week season. To date, she has walked for Moschino, Fendi, Chanel, Balmain, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabanna, Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Isabel Marant, Celine and Saint Laurent to name only a handful. She has also appeared in advertising campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, Marchesa, Alexander McQueen and Donna Karan among others.
Perhaps most notably, Romee was chosen as a newcomer to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2014. The following year, she was instated as a VS Angel alongside Alessandra Ambrosio and Candice Swanepoel.
Romee has sat for seminal photographers Inez and Vinoodh and Mario Testino, and is well-known for her perpetual, infectious smile. She has modeled in editorials for British, German, Spanish, Dutch and Japanese Vogue. In 2016, Romee appeared on the cover of Vogue España with fellow VS Angels and most recently was shot by Jan Welters for her solo cover of Dutch Vogue. Currently, she is the face of MICHAEL Michael Kors, starring in the latest campaign alongside Taylor Hill.
